"Our goal is to turn out well-rounded and academically successful young men and women who have the foundations for success in life beyond school."

Academic

We recognise that a balanced curriculum is essential to students at all Key Stages at Rickmansworth School. Our goal is to prepare our students for the next phase of their education or employment and, whilst we place great emphasis on developing the whole child by extensive and varied extracurricular opportunities, the academic curriculum is key.

At Key Stage 3 students study:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Science
  • French or German
  • Physical Education
  • Art
  • Drama
  • History
  • Geography
  • ICT
  • Music

At Key Stage 4 students follow a programme of GCSEs in:

  • English – Language and Literature
  • Maths – Additional Maths (a further maths qualification offered to some students)
  • Science – Core and Additional Science
  • Physical Education

Students are guided towards a 3 Option or 4 Option Pathway. For those on the 3 Option Pathway a Modern Foreign Language is compulsory (this is most students). However, we recognise that there are some students for whom a different curriculum would be more suitable and they choose 4 Options and are not required to study French or German

Students choose three or four further GCSEs from:

  • Triple Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
  • Art
  • Business Studies
  • Drama
  • Dance
  • History
  • Geography
  • ICT or Computing
  • Music
  • Photography
  • Religious Studies
  • Technology – Product Design, Food Technology

The vast majority of students then stay on to our 6th Form to study AS/A Level examinations in 3 or 4 subjects (according to ability). Further details of these courses can be found in the Departmental Sections of this website.
