GOVERNING BODY

What do we do?

The governors are responsible for the good governance of the school. They work closely with the headmaster and staff in ensuring that educational standards are raised and maintained for all pupils and in providing a safe and stimulating environment for pupils to develop.  The governors do this by providing a strategic view for the school acting as a critical friend and ensuring accountability.

The school has a maximum of 20 governors represented by three categories: community (9), parent (7) and staff (3), plus the headmaster. Governance is organised through the Full Governing Body meetings, the Education and Learning committee and the Resources committee. A number of forums – Admissions, Finance, Joint Consultative Committee, Premises and Safety – feed into the latter two committees. In addition, governors and staff meet once a term at the Staff Forum to exchange views and discuss the work of the school. A Pupil Discipline committee, composed of three governors drawn from a pool of eight, meets when required.

Each academic year the Full Governing Body sets its objectives for that year. The objectives for 2011 – 2012 are:

  • To complete the staffing review and implement the new staffing structure for September 2012.
  • To establish the new committee structure and a framework for governors to meet teaching staff with a view to learning more about the work of their departments.
  • To ensure positive progress on the new Sports Hall and consequential progress on supplementary projects.
