The Specialisms

Our acheivement in attaining a second specialism in Science

complements our work as an Arts College and ensures that our pupils

have access to a balanced, varied curriculum and a wide

variety of extra curricular opportunities

The Specialisms: Where Science meets the Arts

The practices of science and the arts both involve the single-minded pursuit of thosemoments of discovery when what we perceive suddenly illuminates our understanding. The qualities we seek to develop in young people who follow courses in both science and the arts are therefore similar: curiosity, dedication, application and imagination.

Our twin specialisms demonstrate the interconnections of the curriculum. Science analyses the chemistry of paint, pastels, inks and make-up. Plays explore the human drama of scientific discovery. Physics enables our understanding of music, electronics, sound systems and stage lighting. Anatomy reveals the possibilities for the human body in sport and dance. The study of mathematics and languages are the keys which give access to the other disciplines.

We welcome the acknowledgement through our specialist designations that we are a highperforming school with a strong academic tradition. We are confident that our investment in the curriculum will promot opportunities for children whose enthusiasmfor learning will continue to attract andmotivate teaching staff of the highest calibre.
