1/2/2019 Head's Weekly Message
5th February 2019 | Head's Weekly Message |

Dear Parents and Carers

May I extend my thanks and congratulations again to all staff and students involved in the production of Joseph last week – if you were lucky enough to see it, I am sure you will agree with me that Mrs Curtis, our talented students and her team of staff have surpassed themselves yet again. I would like to share with you in particular a message of support from a student’s family member:

"Just a short note to say how much my wife and I enjoyed the excellent show recently put on by the school. Our Granddaughter invited us and the entire evening was a complete joy and equally as good as any West End Show. We have never seen a better school play and for that alone all the teachers and children should be very proud and pleased!!! Thank you all once again for a superb evening."

May I draw your attention to the letter issued this week regarding our Lost Property procedure.

Mental Health Week
Next week is Mental Health Week. All students will be taking part in L3 lessons on the subject of Mental Health and will receive year group assemblies on the subject. Please see the useful parent advice document issued this week on our website Letters page.

Year 11 GCSE PE Trip
Next week also sees 35 Year 11 PE students visiting Yorkshire as part of their GCSE practical. Students will participate in climbing and cycling – we wish them well!

Year 13 Parents’ Evening - Thursday 7 February
May I remind parents and carers of Year 13 students of our scheduled Parents’ evening next Thursday. The Evening starts at 5:30pm and finishes promptly at 8:00pm, in the Sixth Form Block.

Rock Challenge 2019
Over the last few weeks, the Dance Department has been preparing for this year's Rock Challenge event, an educational and aspirational performing arts competition for students in secondary schools across the UK, aimed at helping young people enjoy school and live pro-active and positive lifestyles. For us as a school, this event is a celebration of the hard work, dedication and talent of the young people we have at Rickmansworth. On Thursday 7 February we have over 60 students from across all year groups participating in this competition at Stevenage; some as performers, others in set, costume, hair and make-up design, lighting, videography, sound and stage management. We wish them luck and hope they win some awards!

School Uniform Shop
The next shop takes place on Monday 4 February 7-8pm in the Hall.  Please note that new style P.E. track pants are now in stock.

Herts Children Services Parent Information Evening – “Getting On With Your Teen”
I am pleased to provide details of a parent information evening provided by our colleagues at Herts Children’s Services.  The course provides an interesting insight to help understand your child’s behaviour and how to help your children manage their feelings.  It also provides some guidance on how to negotiate your way through conflict and answer the question “Why does my child do that?”.  See flyer issued this week for more details.

Yours sincerely

Mr P Thompson
Acting Headteacher
