Head's weekly message and letters
1st May 2019 | Head's Weekly Message |

Dear Parents and Carers

I hope you and your family have had a lovely Easter holidays and that your son/daughter has returned refreshed for the term ahead. For those students in Year 11 and Year 13, I do hope you have been studying hard and we wish you all well this half-term in the weeks ahead of your public exams as you undertake final preparation and revision. For a number of subjects, they actually have component papers (practicals and listening exams) in first half of May before the main exam period. Good luck to all those students involved.

We also wish our Rock Challenge students the best of luck as they participate in the regional event today, Friday 26 April. Please keep an eye on our twitter feed to hear news of this. More information about how the event went next week.

I would like to thank all the staff and congratulate all the students who took part in the sporting trips that occurred over the Easter holidays. The Wales Rugby trip to Cardiff, led by Mr Gunn, and the Girls Netball Tour of Paris, led by Miss Townshend. Both groups had lots of sporting success, but as always, it is great to hear the glowing comments about how impeccably behaved our students are and therefore what great ambassadors they make and how they are a credit to the school. Well done!

GCSE Languages

I am proud to inform you that the School has received a letter from the Rt Hon Nick Gibb MP, Minister of State for School Standards congratulating us on the fact that 77% of our students are entered for a language GCSE in 2018, which makes the School one of the top 15% of all state funded mainstream secondary schools in the country.  He states that ‘The School’s impressive language GCSE entries mean you are providing pupils with a firm foundation in linguistic knowledge, broadening their horizons and enabling them to embark on further study and develop a love of languages.’

School uniform shop – Tuesday 30 April

Please may I remind you of our next Uniform Shop which will be held in the School Hall between 7.00-8.00pm.

PTA meeting – Tuesday 30 April

You are invited to attend this meeting which will be held from 7.15-8.15pm in the Sixth Form Centre.  This is an ideal opportunity for you to become involved with the School as a parent/carer.  We hope to see many of you there.

Next Herts for Learning Parent Workshop – Monday 29 April

Our next Parent Workshop is Positive Approaches to Emotional and Mental Health and takes place next Monday 29 April at 7pm. Growing levels of mental health problems among children and young people are a very real concern. This session explores the sources of pressure on children and identifies core strategies to build into daily life to help build and retain positive mental health in the face of life’s ups and downs. Strategies will include ensuring that young people know how and when to get help. Book your free place here: https://www.trybooking.co.uk/FDC

Netball Development Tour in Disneyland Paris and Rugby Development Tour in Cardiff

We had two very successful trips during the Easter holidays and I would like to thank the students for being a credit to the School and to the staff for giving up some of their well-deserved Easter holiday to take them.

Best wishes to all in the term ahead.

Yours sincerely

Mr P Thompson, Acting Headteacher
