Dear Parents and Carers
GCSE and A Level Exams are almost complete – congratulations to all the students for their hard work and revision; after their last exams they will be able to enjoy an extended summer holidays!
We have our two Proms on Tuesday 25 June (Year 13 at Shendish Manor Hotel) and Thursday 27 June (Year 11 at Watford FC) which are always great occasions and a nice send off for the students at the end of the year. Also that week we are looking forward to the Sports Partnership Awards Evening (Monday 24 June), the relaunch of the Ricky Oscars (ROscars) which celebrates the work of our Film Students during their GCSE and A level courses (Friday 28 June), and also the House Dance competition for our KS3 students which occurs during the school day on Thursday 27 June.
Our first ice-cream Friday took place last week in the pouring rain, but we still raised £93 which was good considering the weather. We are continuing with this promotion each Friday for the rest of term. With better weather forecast, we hope for an increased uptake of ice-creams by our students.
Good luck to Year 10 and Year 12 students who are taking internal exams next week – it is important that they prepare thoroughly for these so that staff can make accurate predictions of their performance for next year. I hope KS3 students are pleased with their results when they receive them – it is important to analyse their performance carefully and learn from their mistakes. We all make them, but learning and reflecting on them to avoid a repeat, is the key moving forward.
We have been conducting our Year 6 Transition visits into our local feeder primary schools over the last two weeks to meet next year’s students. They are all very excited about coming to Ricky and we will see them all again in July for their transition visit.
Thank you to vast majority of students who have complied impeccably with the new mobile phone policy. It is really nice to see students engaging in conversation with each other at social times, rather than all looking down at their own mobile phones.
9 July is fast approaching as the deadline for selling tickets for the Prize Draw. We have currently raised £3,500, and there is still a long way to go before we reach our target of £100,00. This money is for the new Learning Resource Centre and Library, which the students will benefit from. Please encourage your son/daughter to bring extra tickets home to sell. The Form Group that sells the most tickets will all have a free trip to Thorpe Park.
Yours sincerely
Paul Thompson, Acting Headteacher
