Duke of Edinburgh's Award Opportunities at Rickmansworth School

Rickmansworth School is pleased to announce the availability of the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award for our students. This prestigious personal development program requires participants to complete four elements for the Bronze and Silver Awards, and five elements for the Gold Award.

Prior to undertaking the expedition component, students must complete the independent sections of Physical, Skill, and Volunteering.

Bronze Award (Year 9): Commencing in September, this award is open to all Year 9 students. The program includes supplementary classes aligned with the DofE syllabus, covering essential skills such as navigation, first aid, and camp craft. The training and expedition for the Bronze Award are conducted by fully qualified and experienced school staff during enrichment week.

Silver Award (Year 10): Year 10 students are eligible to apply for the Silver Award, regardless of previous Bronze Award participation. The expeditions for the Silver Award are currently held in the Cotswolds or the Chilterns, with the 3-day, 2-night qualifying expedition taking place in South Wales.

Gold Award (Year 12): For the Gold Award expedition, the school collaborates with an Approved Activity Partner (AAP) to provide specialised support. The program includes an in-school training day, a training day in Watlington, and a 3-day practice expedition in South Wales, followed by the qualifying expedition in Mid Wales. Upon completion, there is an opportunity to have the award presented at the Palace.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award program has experienced significant growth at Rickmansworth School over the past years, with an increasing number of students benefiting from this valuable opportunity.
